The Case Study is an in-depth document of approximately 12,000 words, based on a project undertaken within the candidate’s current practice. It should demonstrate professional competence across as many RIBA Work Stages as possible, reflecting the candidate’s role, responsibilities, and decision-making within live practice.
This submission consists of a short written document of approximately 1,500 words, accompanied by the candidate’s CV. Together, they provide a concise overview of professional experience to date, along with a reflective evaluation of career development and future aspirations within the architectural profession.
Professional experience is most commonly recorded using the RIBA PEDR system, which remains the standard route for Part 3 candidates. Where candidates have in excess of ten years’ experience in practice, ARC-ex’s Certificate of Professional Experience may be considered as an alternative.
The written examination is completed within the candidate’s own office environment over the course of a normal working day. Paper 1 is issued in the morning, followed by Paper 2 in the afternoon, allowing candidates to demonstrate applied professional knowledge in a realistic working context.
